For The Animal Lovers-saying Goodbye to Man's Best Friend

Yesterday, my parents had to put down our family dog, Molly. I was in the 8th grade when my parents brought her home. My mom bought her because all 5 of her kids had started school & she was lonely in the house. So she came home with the tiniest Boston Terrier you have ever seen (she was the runt of the litter.) She definitely had a HUGE spirit. Heck, she kept up with FIVE kids!

A few things about Molly:

She HATED the mail man. Every time he came to drop the mail in the slot she would jump about 3 feet in the air & grab the mail from his hand before it hit the ground. It was hysterical!

She passed the worst gas. It grossed me out so bad.

She snored like an old man. You always knew when she was asleep because it sounded like a freight train was barreling through our house.

She had a love affair with a very stupid & annoying a beagle, which produced two litters of puppies--CUTE puppies! When the puppies started going to new homes Molly's hatred for the mail man developed. We swear that she thought he was the one taking them.

She was like another sibling. Just running around, wreaking havoc, playing games, & in the mix of things.

THE DOGS WHO HAVE SHARED OUR LIVES
The dogs who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a barking at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometime, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them...
and always will.

Not Molly, I lost all my pics when my comp crashed a few months ago. But this is a VERY close resemblance to her!

Oh man! My old dog had the worst gas too! And everyone thought it was me, b/c surely dogs can't produce that kind of stench. Sorry for the loss - they really are members of the family.

And UGH! I cringe every time I think about when my comp crashed and I lost all my pics. Boo!

Oh how sad! Our white German Shepard died 2 years ago and we were devastated. Never going to have a dog again. As I sit here typing I have 2 little terriers laying on my feet; sleeping! I am a new visitor and follower and hope you will stop by when you have a chance;

What a great way to honor her with this post! She sounds like our Bulldog with the gas and the snoring!

Aww!! What a cute little dog (if she looks like the picture) :) Wonderful post! I'm sure the mailman is breathing a sigh of relief now. ;)

Kate, I am sorry to hear about Molly! The memory of her that sticks out in my mind is her eye. It looked so evil after the mailman sprayed her with pepper spray!

My dog's farts are rare and silent, but deadly.

Sorry to hear about your dog :( She sounded awesome

Oh how sad for you and your family, we lost our Sasha last year. She was a cross Alsatian and collie, she was also like one of the family as she was with us for 12 years.

Oh, i am so sorry to hear about Molly. A pet is always such a big part of a family, a member in and by itself. Especially when they have been with you for so long, having to say goodbye is so difficult. Thank you for reminding me to go outside and hug my dogs. I hope that things will light up for you soon.

Hugs,

HRH Mommy

OMG so sorry to hear that, girl! I've always wanted the same kind of dog. They really are part of our families not just a pet.

Ok so I was scoping out your fb page and I saw this picture under this post and I can't believe yet another thing we have in common. My parents have a Boston terrier! I can't imagine when he gets old, I love him like a sibling for sure and Emma does too! So sorry he had to be put down!
